Ephrata, PA is classified as a borough in Lancaster County, and is located only a few miles northeast of the City of Lancaster, in between Lancaster and Reading. Because of this, it’s a popular place for commuters who work in either city. It’s also located only 57 miles from Pennsylvania. Ephrata currently has a population of around 13,800 people, as of most recently-available US Census estimates.
The city was first named after Ephrath, a biblical town in Israel, when it was founded in 1732. Since then, the city has grown dramatically, but it still contains a number of historic places, due to its age and significance, including the Ephrata Commercial Historic District, The Connell Mansion, and the Mentzer Building, to name a few.

The Red Rose Transit Authority (RRTA), based in Lancaster, provides bus service to Ephrata through Route 11, but most transportation is done in personal cars. Some of the major highways in the area include US Route 222, Pennsylvania Route 272, and US Route 322. The nearest major airport is Lancaster Airport, but Harrisburg International Airport is also nearby, only 44 miles from Ephrata.
Schooling is provided by the Ephrata Area School District, which has a total of 6 schools – 4 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. Together, these schools provide a comprehensive K-12 education for all Ephrata residents.
